Design

This High Roller Ferris wheel was established in the early part of August 2011 as the central figure at the Caesars Entertainment Corporation and was worth $550 million. The structural engineers for this design were the Arup Engineers, which were the same engineers that were contracted during the construction of the Singapore Flyer.

Its wheel is designed to rotate on a custom designed pair of a spherical roller with bearings, each having a weight of approximately 19,400 lbs. (which is about 8,800 kg). The bearings have a diameter of about 7.55 feet (which is about 2.30 m), its inner bore is about 5.25 ft. (which is about 1.60 m), and its width is about 2.07 ft. (Or 0.63 m).

Its outer rim has 28 sections, each of about 56 ft. (that is, about 17 m) of length. These were held temporarily by a pair of radial struts of about 275 ft. (which is about 84 m), during its construction, but was later secured permanently by four cables.

It also has different passenger cabins which are situated on the outboard rim wheel. These cabins are rotated individually by electric motors that help to maintain a cabin floor which is horizontal during its rotation. The first designs were made with cabins of 32 passengers, each having a passenger capacity of 40. Its final designs were made to accommodate 28 cabins each with 40 passengers which made it have a total passenger capacity of 1,120 passengers.

During the night hours, the wheels are usually lighted up using a 2,000-LED lighting system that can produce different color sections, single solid colors, and custom display used for holidays and special occasions as well as sets of other multiple colors that move around the rim.

Construction

The construction of this Ferris wheel was scheduled originally to start in early September 2011 and be completed by late 2013, but it was later changed to the first quarter of 2014.

By the 9th day of September 2013, the wheel’s outer rim was already completed. While the cabin and final cabin were consecutively installed in November and December 2013 respectively.

After its testing and setting up of its lighting system, the High Roller was finally opened to the public on the 31st day of March 2014, by 4 p. m.
